BIG CATS OF THE SERENGETI PHOTO SAFARI TRIP REPORT
Our safari began in Nairobi, where all participants gathered for an overnight stay. The next day, we boarded three small aircraft flights that transported us to Kogatende in the Northern Serengeti, marking our first destination on our journey.
KATI KATI CAMP - KOGATENDE, NORTHERN SERENGETI (3 NIGHTS)
During our stay at Kati Kati Camp in Northern Serengeti, we were treated to an unforgettable experience. We witnessed the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Great Migration, with massive river crossings leaving us amazed. Other wildlife encounters including sightings of cheetahs, lions, and a shy leopard, adding excitement and mystery to our safari adventure.
SIRINGIT CAMP - SERONERA, CENTRAL SERENGETI (3 NIGHTS)
Our three-night stay at Siringit Camp in Central Serengeti was spent around the the rocky outcrops known as "kopjes." Exploring this characteristic terrain, we encountered a variety of wildlife wonders. From the sighting of a stunning young male leopard to the image of a female leopard resting in a yellow bark acacia tree, each moment provided great photo opportunities. We also stumbled upon spotted hyena dens, witnessed the graceful flight of a lilac-breasted roller, and were captivated by the sight of a massive male leopard with its Grant's gazelle kill at Masai Kopjes.
NDUTU LODGE - NDUTU, SOUTHERN SERENGETI (8 NIGHTS)
Our eight-night stay at Ndutu Lodge in the southern Serengeti was fantastic. Settling into our comfortable lodge, we embraced the relaxed pace of exploring this incredible area, where off-roading is permitted, allowing us to approach wildlife closely and track their movements. Ndutu holds countless secrets waiting to be discovered by patient photographers, and over our nine days, we were privileged to see remarkable sights. We encountered five magnificent male lions, witnessed a thrilling cheetah hunt as it brought down a Thomson's gazelle, and spotted a leopard hiding at the top of a tree we chose for a coffee break. Elephants roamed the marshlands, while jackals and a serval made fleeting appearances. Another highlight was encountering a different cheetah with its small cub. However, the most incredible moment came when we crossed paths with a lioness named "Laura." Observing suckle marks on her, we decided to follow. She led us to her den where she had hidden four tiny cubs. If this wasn't enough, we then watched her move each cub to a new den site by carrying them in her mouth.. we were left speechless. Our final morning presented us with a breathtaking sunrise over the lake, dotted with thousands of flamingos.
THE JOURNEY ENDS
After our final morning at Ndutu, we set out on a scenic journey back to Arusha, where we stayed overnight before starting our road trip back to Nairobi. We all appreciated the chance to unwind in a day room before catching our international flights home.
I would like to thank our safari guides, Arnold and Wilfred, for their exceptional care and attention during our trip. Their patience and knowledge helped us capture amazing photos of the wildlife.
We also appreciate the staff at the camps for looking after us so well and providing delicious packed breakfasts, which allowed us more time to photograph animals in the field.
A big thank you to Peter, Jody, Linda, and Pok Zin for joining us on this unforgettable journey.
Enjoy some highlights from the trip,
Warm regards,
Stu
