MALAMALA AND CHOBE RIVER PHOTO SAFARI TRIP REPORT
Our safari adventure began in Johannesburg with an overnight stay before we boarded a flight to Skukuza in Kruger National Park. Once we arrived, we were transferred to MalaMala Main Camp.
MALAMALA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE - MAIN CAMP (6 NIGHTS)
On our very first drive we found a lioness with three adorable cubs from the Kambula pride. Over the next six days, we developed a special affection for one cub in particular whom we named "Wobbly" because of his walking difficulties. Despite his challenges, he managed to keep pace with his siblings, displaying remarkable determination.
We were lucky to observe Cape Hunting Dogs at their den with their small puppies. Additionally, we had a number of sightings of the Kambula Pride and the Ndzhenga Male Lions, fathers of the cubs.
Leopard sightings were abundant, allowing us to photograph 10 different leopards. The highlight of the leopard sightings was photographing one of the cubs of Sibuye female, as it sat perched out in the open on a rock.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our ranger Mike, we also had the privilege of witnessing a female Cheetah with her three cubs.
Our safari experience was further enriched by sightings of elephants, waterbuck, baboons, scrub hare, tree squirrels, giraffes, zebras, and buffaloes.
PANGOLIN HOTEL CHOBE RIVER (3 NIGHTS)
During our three-night stay at Pangolin Hotel on the Chobe River, we had the opportunity to embark on six boat rides using the Pangolin Photo Boats. The experience of photographing wildlife from the water was truly remarkable, and we encountered a rich diversity of species. From elephants to the iconic Malachite Kingfisher, Whistling Ducks, Yellow Billed Storks, and even a pride of Lions quenching their thirst at the water's edge, the abundance of wildlife was extraordinary.
THE JOURNEY ENDS
We enjoyed one final morning game drive before flying back to Johannesburg where our safari ended.
Thank you so much to Mr Shuur, our guide at the Chobe River, and Mike, our ranger at Malamala, for their exceptional care and assistance in helping us capture stunning wildlife photographs. We are also grateful to the staff at Pangolin Hotel and Malamala Main Camp for their hospitality, ensuring our needs were met so we could fully immerse ourselves in photography. A special shoutout to our fellow adventurers Sharon, Helen, and Stella for joining us on this unforgettable journey!
Enjoy some photos from the trip.
Warm regards,
Stu
